Colorado CPE Requirements:

Licensees renew biennially on November 30 of odd numbered years. In order to renew in active status, the Colorado CPA must complete eighty hours of CPE within the two-year reporting period. The reporting period is January 1st of even numbered years to December 31st of odd numbered years.

Special Requirements/Limitations:

As a condition for the renewal of an active status certificate, each Colorado certificate holder must complete a total of 80 hours of CPE during the two year reporting period. Four hours of CPE must be in ethics. The four-hour requirement can be met by taking our four-hour Colorado Ethics course. Follow the ethics link on our homepage to access the course. No more than 16 hours are allowed in Personal Development.

A certificate holder who obtains initial Colorado certification during a reporting period must complete ten hours of CPE during each full quarter remaining in the reporting period. Within six months of the date the Board grants an initial certificate, the certificate holder must complete two hours of Colorado Rules and Regulations (CR&R). Our four hour Colorado Ethics course does not meet this requirement for initial certificate holders.

There are no restrictions on the number of formal self-study CPE credits claimed in the renewal period.

Do AEG courses qualify for credit in Colorado?

Yes. The Colorado State Board of Accountancy does not issue sponsor agreements to CPE providers but it has adopted the NASBA/AICPA CPE Standards. As a member of NASBA’s Registry and QAS sponsor approval programs, our courses are in compliance with the Standards and are therefore accepted for credit in Colorado.

How are our recommended CPE hours determined?

As a member of the NASBA Registry and QAS sponsor approval programs, we are required to conform to the measurement standards contained in the Statement on Standards of Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Programs developed jointly by NASBA and the AICPA. Under these Standards our credits are based upon 1 CPE credit for every 50-minutes of study time, as determined by the average test results of CPAs pre-testing the material prior to publication.
